From the President

 Next Club Meeting September

At PUD, 2320 California, Everett.

 From the President

B.I.K.E.S. Meeting

Save Thursday, Sept. 14 for the next B.I.K.E.S. Club meeting at the PUD in Everett.

National Night Out

Stop by the B.I.K.E.S. Club table at the county-wide National Night Out Against Crime Celebration at McCollum Park in Mill Creek on Aug. 1 from 5-8 p.m. The free family event is designed to build community and have fun. There may be an event in your home town, too. Don't forget to ride your bike there!

B.I.K.E.S. Picnic

Thank you to Jack McClincy and Janell Reich for hosting the B.I.K.E.S. Club picnic again this year in their beautiful Stillaguamish River setting, and to Dan Scott (the inspiration) and Bill Weber (the perspiration) for ensuring that a vote on the club name was had at the event.

There really wasn't a quorum, so a holiday party election is likely to come, but the preference was Snohomish County B.I.K.E.S. Club. Also thanks to our food shoppers for the day Mike Dahlstrom and Patti Garrett.

Long-time BIKES Club members Gary and Joanne Sauter write: "We are moving back to Montana next week and will have a new address and phone number. Our new house is just off of Hwy 2 so if any BIKE's members are traveling that way, either on a bike or other transportation, give us a call.  We will have lots of room for visitors to stay."

Their new address is  582 Stoneridge Drive, Kalispell, MT  59901; phone 406-755-1795.

RAPSody Volunteers

We're still looking for a few more folks to help out at the Allyn Waterfront Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. The park is a few miles south of Belfair on the Kitsap Peninsula. Volunteers can stay free overnight at the Shelton High School (camp inside or out). Plus you earn a RAPSody t-shirt and help support the Bicycle Alliance of Washington.
Call Kristin at 360-658-2462 to volunteer.

 Big Rides, Big Fun

Many club members did the Seattle to Portland bike ride this year - hope great fun was had by all. Next up are the RSVP, and of course the Ride Around Puget Sound (RAPSody). Now that you've trained so hard, why not put in a few more miles in support of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington? Visit www.rapsodybikeride.com or call Kristin for a personal sales job on this hilly, friendly, fabulous ride.

Bicycle Alliance Auction

B.I.K.E.S. Club president Kristin Kinnamon, a Bicycle Alliance board member, is hosting a table at the BAW auction on Nov. 4. B.I.K.E.S. members are welcome to enjoy dinner, free drinks (alcoholic and non) and a fun atmosphere at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall that night.

There are silent auctions of bike and non-bike items (like romantic getaways, hand made items, catered meals, family outings) plus the big live auction where some of us sit on our hands and others compete for more great stuff. Cost is $60 per person - reserve your space now by calling 360-658-2462.

Here is a link to an article in Fortune magazine describing
what a peloton is

http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/26/magazines/fortune/peloton_greatteams_fortune_0612/index.htm

Club Mileage Reimbursement: Approved at the May club meeting and effective immediately, 40 cents per mile and ferry expenses for SAG vehicles will be reimbursed for qualified rides.  A ride will be considered qualified if it is an officially listed club ride.  Reimbursed miles will be miles actually incurred in the course of the ride and not miles as a result of travel to the ride start.

Ride leaders take note!

John Carlin is the new Miles Coordinator.
Please send him your ride miles effective Dec. 11, 2005 through Holiday Party 2006.
Contact info: johnecarlin@comcast.net, 425-778-4529
The signed ride sheets still go to Kristin for club record-keeping.
