 ********** ACHIEVE **********

In January, BIKES began a series of semi-monthly training rides.  The rides will progress from
relatively flat 20 mile courses to more difficult somewhat hilly terrain and 40-50 mile distances.  The series will culminate in a two-day weekend ride in a scenic location.

These rides are designed for riders who want to improve their endurance and cycling skills and increase their comfort level riding on the road.  They'll also offer opportunity to meet other cyclists, try out some new eateries, and start preparing for all the great spring and summer cycling that the Northwest offers.

Scheduled future ride dates are February 12 and 25, March 11 and 26, and April 9 and 22.  Mark your calendar and check the club ride listings for date changes!

Get Your License Plate

The Share the Road license plate is officially for sale this month. A majority of the cost goes to support the Bicycle Alliance. Plus, the plates send a great message that you support cycling, even if you happen to be driving at the moment.

Just remember, it’s not worth getting the plate until your renewal date comes up. The origination cost is $40, plus $30 each year when your registration comes due.  Your first year cost is a little steep at $70, but $28 of that goes to the BAW, and the rest, well, that’s what “vanity” plates are all about.

By the way, if you have a second car, maybe you’d like to get some original artwork by BIKES member Janet Orso on those license plates. Janet designed the lighthouse plate to support WSU Beachwatchers and other environmental programs.
It also goes on sale Jan. 2 (Janet will have plate #8).

The Share the Road plate can be purchased at your local vehicle licensing office.
Visit  www.bicyclealliance.org for more information.
