B.I.K.E.S.  Next  Meeting,  January 11, 2007

From the President

 Next Club Meeting 7 p.m. January 11th

At Alfy’s Pizza, 2317 Broadway, Everett.

See below for more information

This month I would like to wish everyone a happy
holiday season.  It is that time of year we all start wishing for the shiny new bicycle stuff or maybe a registration for our favorite ride.  For some us, a sunny day to spin our wheels would be enough.  Others would be happy with new rain gear.  What ever you are wishing for, I hope you find it under the tree.

With the new year comes a chance to create new resolutions.  For the members who haven't made theirs yet, I have a short list

 1.  Ride your bike often

 2.  Bring a friend to a meeting (a great program and free pizza during the January meeting).

 3.  Lead a club ride (don't worry about the speed,
remember you’re the leader, an experienced club ride leader will join and assist your 1st time).

 4.  Go to Bike Expo (the club covers admission for a minimal volunteer commitment).

 5.  Volunteer to help, ride or both on the McClinchy Mile Bike Ride. (Many of the jobs i.e. Parking, Registration, and Planning don't interfere with riding).

Come out and enjoy some winter riding.  Colder weather means layered clothes, slower paces and shorter rides.  Same great cyclists, wonderful food stops and an incredible sense of accomplishment.

See you on a ride soon.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Bill

Club News

Club Gets a Familiar New Name

B.I.K.E.S  Club of Snohomish County is our official new name. After more than a year of serious discussion and preliminary votes that didn’t pass constitutional muster, the new club name was decided in a landslide vote during the club holiday party on Dec. 2.

Twenty-five members votes, and 19 opted to keep the club’s traditional all-caps spelling while adding the name of our home county.

The vote meets the requirements of the club bylaws to have a turnout of 15% of all members and an approval of at least 65%. All that’s left to do is file revised articles of incorporation with the state showing our new name. Oh, and using it in everything else we do.

So, next time you write a letter to the editor on safe cycling, speak in favor of bike lanes at a public meeting or meet a new cyclist on the Centennial Trail, introduce yourself proudly as a member of  B.I.K.E.S. Club of Snohomish County.
