From the President
Club Happenings
By Tim Wise
BIKES Club Secretary
The last item on last month’s agenda mentioned how to go about
installing a bike rack in front of a downtown business.
Everyone at this meeting also liked the idea and would like the
club to pursue it. Bill Higley will talk to the City of
Everett about the rules and procedures that must be followed
before a bike rack can be installed on the sidewalk.
Members that
volunteered on the McClinchy Mile Bike Ride can pick up their
cycling cap at the next meeting or the summer picnic on June
23.
Warren Bare
coordinated the Ride of Silence on May 16 from the County
Courthouse Plaza. More than 30 people rode, and we made a big
impression riding silently south on Evergreen Way, then north on
Broadway.
We talked
about the grants and decided to donate up to $2500 this year. A
call for grants will be sent out by Debby and Kristin with
applications postmarked by June 8. A special meeting will be
held on June 14th
at 6pm to review and approve the grant awards. Details on the
website updates page.
Warren Bare
mentioned how the City of Bellevue paints a large white cross on
the road above the in-ground light sensors so bicyclists know
where to place their bikes so the signal light will change.
Bill Higley
and Tim Wise will talk to the county traffic engineers to see if
they can paint a marker on the road to help bicyclists at
traffic lights.
Next month’s
newsletter stuffing will be on Monday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at
Mary Andrews’ house in Everett. Call 425-337-6009 for
directions.
