B.I.K.E.S.  Next  Meeting,  May 10, 2007

From the President

Club Active Off the Bike, Too

By Bill Weber

B.I.K.E.S. Club continues to have a presence in Snohomish County.  We had a table at the REI Cyclefest where we handed out brochures and info to local residents and shoppers.  I recently reviewed the city of Lynnwood plans for bicycle routes and viewed the plans for the Interurban Trail through Lynnwood. These plans can be found on the web at www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us/Content/Business.aspx?id=72.  The completion date for the Interurban bridge over 44th Avenue in Lynnwood is late 2008.

There are also other projects getting attention in the area. The 124th Street   overpass for the Interurban Is slated for a temporary completion this year.  The Lowell Snohomish River Road bike lanes are on this year's county project list.  A pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks in the Lowell area of Everett is under construction.

Cycling in Everett received support from a survey by the city Parks Department when the residents rated walking and  cycling trails as the number one greatest need for recreational facilities.

Many other local cities have had open houses to present plans for future   development.  It continues to benefit the  cycling community when we attend them and sign in as B.I.K.E.S Club members.

See “Advocacy News” and our website for upcoming meetings and issues. Help us by sending in items of note to the webmaster and newsletter editor .
