What is a
“Club Mile”?
By Kristin Kinnamon
Several years
ago, the club began tracking “Frequent Rider Miles” as a way to
encourage participation in club-sponsored rides and recognize
members by including more names in the newsletter. Last year, 50
members rode 100 or more miles with the BIKES Club. We give out fun
prizes at the 100, 500 and 1,000-mile level just to keep it
interesting – Ride 100 miles to earn your club water bottle in 2007!
People generally compete with themselves to reach a goal (though my
goal is to keep ahead of Bill Weber’s teenage son Tommy).
Not every mile
you ride is a “Frequent Rider Mile.” To count for our club tracking,
the ride must involve other club members in one or more of the
following ways:
· Ride
is listed in the monthly newsletter and led by a club member
· Ride
listed on the website on the “Ride Changes” page (preferably no
later than 5 p.m. the day prior) and at least two club members from
different households participate
· Other
club’s event rides when listed in the club newsletter “Ride
Calendar,” preferably in time for early registration and carpool
arrangements
If you would
like to track every mile your ride, with and without your BIKES Club
friends, consider using one of the on-line tracking sites such as
www.bikejournal.com
or the Washington Health Foundation’s “Healthiest State” mileage log
