Club Bylaws Need
Update
Discussion Nov. 8, Vote Dec. 1
A
group’s bylaws specify club officers, elections, committees,
purpose and process. Our club bylaws were written more than 20
years ago and contain many provisions which no longer apply.
Come to our Nov. 8 meeting to review the current bylaws and
consider changes.
Proposed changes to the bylaws will be posted on the club
website later in November and voted on at the Dec. 1 Holiday
Party. As with the club name change approved at last year’s
holiday event, any changes will need a quorum of 15% of club
members and a supermajority 60% approval to pass.
Club Meeting Nov. 8
Contrary to our current bylaws, BIKES Club of Snohomish County
has meetings on the second Thursday of the month from September
to May. The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the
County Administration Building, 3000 Rockefeller in Everett.
Parking—for bikes and cars—is free, and transit access is great.
Members are encouraged to attend to discuss changes to the
bylaws and other club business.
Prior to the meeting, we’ll gather around 5:30 pm. at the
Majestic Café, 1409 Hewitt Ave. for dinner.
Bike Alliance commute program director Kent Peterson rode 1,341
miles around Washington this summer in 15 days. To read about
bicycling conditions around the state, see his photos and share
his journey, visit www.kentsbike.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.
Ride Coordinator for December
The December ride coordinator is Bill Weber.
Ride leaders should submit club rides to Bill by the 18th of the
month at
president@
bikesclub.org.
He’ll be soliciting rides for December and the first weekend of
January. If you’d like to lead a ride for the first time,
contact Bill or another club officer for assistance and advice.

BIKES Club members and their families are invited to attend the
annual Holiday Party & Gift Exchange on Saturday, Dec. 1 at
Warren Bare’s clubhouse in the
The club provides the main dish and non-alcoholic beverages,
members bring desserts, salads, side dishes and other drinks of
choice. Oh, and don’t forget a White Elephant gift – these have
ranged from Christmas wreaths made of bicycle wheels, a Rubik’s
cube disguised in a Starbuck’s bag, favorite mystery books,
classy wine sets, home-baked goodies – you decide whether you
want your gift to be coveted or avoided.
The party begins at 6 p.m. at the Community Room of the Carriage
Club Estates Mobile Home Park, 13320 Highway 99, graciously
arranged by our host Warren Bare. In addition to dinner and the
gift exchange, we’ll hand out Frequent Rider Club mileage awards
and vote on club bylaw changes (see related article). There’s
plenty of room for everyone, so come meet fellow members and
enjoy the festivities. Carpooling is encouraged. For directions,
see the December newsletter or call Warren at (425)743-7593.
A
short lighted bike ride will precede the party, departing at 5
p.m. for an easy ride to see other people’s lights and show off
our own. To participate in the lighted ride, all you really need
is a simple headlight (aka flashlight duct taped to handlebars)
and rear flasher and a willingness to be seen with people who
have Christmas trees on their helmets and tinsel in their
tires.RSVP for the party by Nov. 26 by calling or emailing Club
President Bill Weber.
