Ride Report
Granite Falls With Fall Colors
By Dan Scott
October 13th Barlow Pass Ride: Debby Grant, Bill Weber, Bob Nyberg,
Steve Linari, and Bruce Deitz joined Elaine and Dan Scott for a
beautiful fall color ride from Verlot to Barlow Pass. The road was
in great shape, except for a short burst of deep gravel to get
around one road project, and wound us up through tall dark trees,
punctuated with colorful ferns and a few maples.
Farther up the views of the river showed jade green water rushing on
its way past large boulders, and mountains rose on either side, a
few with some fairly recent snow. We snacked in the sun at Big Four
picnic area, admiring the colors on the mountains. If you haven't
made this ride, watch for it the next time - or go on your own. It's
possibly the easiest mountain pass ride you can do.

Last Chance to Earn
Incentive
Each year, we track all the miles club members ride on
club-organized rides. Everyone who rides at least 100 club miles
earns a club water bottle. We have additional prizes for higher
mileage riders, and for “most club miles.”
To
get in those last few miles before the cut-off on Dec. 1 (prizes are
awarded at the Holiday Party), check out the November Ride
Calendar. Miles on the lighted bike ride the night of the party
count, too.
If you can’t attend the Holiday Party to collect your prize, Bill
Weber will be handing them out at club meetings and rides in early
2008.
Ride Leaders take note: it is especially important to report your
ride miles and riders promptly this month to Pier at:
ridermiles@bikesclub.org |

Miles through 10/12/07
Ride
Leaders: Don’t forget to send in the participant names and miles for club
rides to Pier Fiorentini at ridermiles@bikesclub.org.
The
Frequent Rider Miles program is intended as a fun benefit of BIKES Club
membership.
Ride 100 miles on club-sponsored rides, earn a club water bottle. Ride 500
miles, earn a club cycling cap, etc.
Miles reported for non-members who participate on club rides are tracked,
but not shown in the newsletter.
Join the club and you, too, can be part of the fun!
