Meeting Minutes
BIKES Club of
Snohomish County meeting minutes October
11, 2007
By Tim Wise
BIKES Club Secretary
Meeting started 7:15 and ended 8:35
Members present: Debby G, Kristin K, Brent & Linda H, Mary A, Tim W,
Warren B, Mike D, Bill W.
Old
Business; Bill W will check on the gym addresses mentioned in last
months meeting. Discussed the Kiwanis bike rodeo that the club
donated a bike for and how the kids enjoyed it. The Kiwanis club is
planning to do it again next year and will invite more children.
Tim
read last meeting’s minutes and Debby reviewed the Treasurer’s
Report. Debby mentioned she would like to see the club make more
interest money from the savings account. She will check into other
options and banks for a better interest rate.
Elections; Bill has decided to stay as president for one more year.
Warren has accepted the VP position with the stipulation that he
doesn’t have to look for club meeting speakers. Debby will stay as
the treasurer and will coordinate meeting programs for future
meetings. Mike has accepted position as secretary.
Kristin will continue to do the newsletter and is willing to train
anyone willing to learn Publisher as the next newsletter editor.
Tim will continue as webmaster and is also willing to train anyone
interested in learning Frontpage.
Warren
suggested moving the elections from the fall to the spring when
there is more member participation. The members all thought that
was a good idea and will plan to hold elections sometime after
McClinchy Mile Ride.
The
members decided to review the Club’s bylaws at the November
meeting. A volunteer will transcribe the written copy into an
electronic version before the next meeting.
An
idea for members to share any past rides or bicycle tours with
photos or video are invited to setup a time with Debby to present at
a future club meeting. So if anyone is interested, contact Debby
Grant.
Tim
will setup a permanent email address to send all monthly rides.
Raffle
drawing for free BAW Auction tickets were won by Mike and Debby.
Mike
proposed that the club get involved in Green Everett next year.
Green Everett is a Sustainable Energy Fair that had over 500 people
attend this year. More information to come next year. For more
information visit,
http://www.sustainableeverett.com/
The
Call for Grants will start in the spring.
Kristin mentioned that Community Transit bus drivers will soon have
the discretion to allow a bike on the bus if the bike rack is full
and CT will start replacing their 2 bike holders with new 3 bikes
holders next year.

Volunteers Keep Club Rolling
Thank-You
Breakfast Nov. 10
The
club’s annual Volunteer Breakfast, a “thank you” to frequent ride
leaders and major club contributors, is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov.
10 at the Cabbage Patch Restaurant in Snohomish.
Club
volunteer Warren Bare is calling all invitees—a long list of folks
who have lead at least three rides in 2007, helped get our
newsletter out each month, tracked members and rides or helped at
more than one event.
We
hope all stalwart volunteers will join us for breakfast and bring
your bike for a ride afterwards (and before—see ride calendar)
Guests are welcome to come (and pick up their own tab). Please RSVP
to Warren Bare at (425) 743-7593.
The
2008 McClinchy Mile Bike Ride will be March 15, 2008. The annual
event is a major volunteer effort, and fundraiser, for the BIKES
Club, so please put it on your calendar now.
McClinchy proceeds support club activities, our community grant
program for bike safety and education, the Bicycle Alliance of
Washington and our Frequent Rider Program. Volunteers are needed now
to help with: facility rentals, government permits and
notifications, route planning and painting, publicity, Bike Expo
(March 8-9) and more.
If
you’d like to help put on our next McClinchy Mile, contact Bill
Weber at 425-252-9587.
A club
volunteer is needed to layout the newsletter each month – a 2-4 hour
commitment. Kristin Kinnamon, the current newsletter editor, is
willing to continue providing many articles, but would like to hand
off that content for final formatting by someone else.
The
layout editor would use Microsoft Publisher (or another program, but
Publisher is included with most Microsoft Office packages and we
have a good template that makes layout easy) to format club miles,
rides and articles and deliver the completed newsletter via email to
our printer each month. Training can be provided. This is a great
way to give back to BIKES Club and learn a new (or use an existing)
skill.
For
more information, contact Kristin Kinnamon at 360-658-2462 or
editor@bikesclub.org.
