From the President
By Bill Weber
Meetings
start again this month. Attendance incentives (free stuff) will
be given away. We have much to address. This year I would like
to support the Bicycle Alliance by buying tickets to their
annual auction and using them as an incentive for meeting
attendance (a $75 dollar value).
We have been
a year without a vice president to invite program speakers. Next
month we will be electing new officers for the club. It has
been a learning experience for me to represent you as your
president. I have answered countless e-mails, attended several
community events, was way over my head in the McClinchy Mile
ride and was helped through it all from great club members who
had been there before.
Elections
will be held in October so it is time to start thinking about
how you can help.
President.
Presides at
general meetings. Calls committee meetings as needed for
McClinchy Mile Ride, picnic, etc. Represents (or appoints
someone else to represent) BIKES with outside organizations as
needed. 5-8 hours a month.
Vice President.
Plans the
program at general meetings. Assists with committees. Performs
duties of president when needed. 2-5 hours a month.
Treasurer.
Deposit
membership dues and notify Database Coordinator of updates.
Provide monthly financial statement. Pay bills and member
reimbursements. 4-5 hours a month.
Secretary.
Keeps
minutes of general meetings and provides to newsletter editor.
Collects club records. Handles correspondence related to
McClinchy Mile Ride. 2-4 hours a month.
Ride Mile Coordinator.
Tracks and
reports miles for the Frequent Rider Club. 2-4 hours a month.
Newsletter Editor.
Compiles and
solicits items of interest for newsletter. Lays-out newsletter
(currently done in Publisher – we have a nice template). 3-5
hours a month.
We will also
be sending the newsletter stuffing volunteer sign-up sheets
around at the meeting. Hope to see you there!

Bicycle Alliance Auction Oct. 27
Enjoy a gala
“black tire” night out with dinner, hors d’oeurves, free
Northwest wine and beer and silent and live auctions, all in
support of our statewide advocacy group, the Bicycle Alliance of
Washington. This year’s catered event is at the Seattle Center
the evening of Oct. 27.
Last year
people at our table purchased some Northwest ride entries, a spa
and haircut, belly dancing lesson, homemade canned fruit,
tickets to Wild Waves and more. Reserve your seat at the BIKES
Club table by calling Kristin at 360-658-2462.
Ride Coordinator Needed Now
We need someone to coordinate club rides for October. Rides need
to be submitted to Tim Wise for the October on-line newsletter
by Sept. 18. If you will do this, contact Bill
Weber.
The ride coordinator emails, calls or personally arm twists ride
leaders old and new to commit to leading a ride in the next
month’s ride calendar.
