From the President

As March is always consumed by the McClinchy mile, there will not be a standard meeting this month.  Instead I will be hosting a light potluck get together on the regular meeting night , March 13. after a brief snack we will be doing last minute organization of the registrations, headbands, food stops and etc.  As there will be no pre-meeting location needed I would suggest a 6:30 snack time before the real work begins.  For address information check the club roster, e-mail or call 425-327-3516

And a big thanks to everyone for making this McClinchy happen

Bill Weber

County Code Changes

The next forum is Thursday, March 6 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The topic is Urban Residential Design Standards. Monthly forums are held at the Snohomish County Campus, Administration Building East, Meeting Room 1, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett.

Bills to Watch
In the Washington State Legislature, thousands of bills have been whittled to hundreds, and the Bicycle Alliance of Washington continues to carefully watch about a half dozen bills that could impact cyclists.

House Bill 2564 to add bicycling to drivers’ ed curriculum needs our support to pass in the Senate. Senate Bill 6580, Addressing the impacts of climate change through the Growth Management Act, needs our support in the House, as does SB 5363, adding speed violations on certain arterials to the traffic safety camera law.

We are concerned about two bills that would make it more difficult to convert unused railroad right-of-way into trails. HB 2344 passed the House unanimously. We need Senators to either kill the bill or amend it so the corridors can be preserved for rail or non-motorized transportation. SB 6800 is a similar bill now before the House.

Other bills we support are HB 3224, Studying Commuter Rail Services, and HB 1773, imposition of tolls.

Learn more about the bills at http://www1.leg.wa.gov/legislature, then write or call your legislators to let them know how you feel.
