B.I.K.E.S.  Your Snohomish County Cycling Club

From the President
By Bill Weber

THE PREZ SAYS

Another year is behind us.  I have my usual list of resolutions again this year.  Ride more (fun and interesting rides all year long), go to a club meeting (at the January meeting, Will McMahan will present on his cross country bicycle trip – and the club buys pizza!),

Other things to do are; list a ride on our monthly calendar or ride changes page), volunteer for the McClinchy Mile Ride (many opportunities allow you to ride as well as volunteer)
You probably remember them all from last year.

In 2008, I had the opportunity to meet with Everett, Snohomish Co. and DOT employees regarding bicycle related projects.  This year I will act as a co-chairperson for a Healthy Communities subcommittee in Everett.  I encourage everyone to talk with an elected official from your neighborhood about bicycling in your community.

You will be surprised by how many of them already cycle or want to learn more about a route or event that you may have attended.

Some club members will go to Olympia again this year for Transportation Lobby Day on February 24th to meet with state elected officials.

Contact me if you are interested in more details.

I hope to see everybody on a ride this year.

January’s Club Meeting

Features

Will’s Bicycle Adventure.

Please join B.I.K.E.S. for its 2009 kick-off meeting on January 8th at Alfy’s Pizza, 2317 Broadway in Everett.

Bicycle adventurer and club member Will McMahan will give a presentation of his cross-country bicycle journey from Everett, Washington to Raleigh, North Carolina.

If you are not familiar with Will’s trek from Everett to Raleigh, then check out this article in the Everett Herald
http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20080727/
NEWS01/953223543/0/

And of course, you can relive his adventure on a nearly day to day basis on his website
http://www.willsbicycleadventure.com/

The Club meeting begins at 6:00pm followed by Will McMahan’s presentation at 7:00.  The business portion of the meeting is McClinchy Mile planning.  The club buys the pizza for this meeting so come and learn what’s going on with McClinchy and then follow along as Will recounts his adventure.
