Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes Tour - 2023

This tour is designed for active senior bicyclists to ride their bikes on the Trail of the Coeur d"Alenes (T CdA) both ways (73 X 2 = 146 miles).  Wallace, Idaho.

For more general information for this 73 mile long fully paved trail, refer to https://parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/trail-coeur-d-alenes/.

Ride leader: Cindy Proctor, proctorcj28@comcast.net, 425-293-3152.

Register:

  • By Wednesday, May 31st, 2023
  • Group size limited to 8.
  • Riders must make their own lodging reservations.

Routes:

  • Links to RideWithGPS routes for each day are being developed and will be available before the event.
  • You must make your own lodging reservations soon.
  • This tour is planned for overnight stays in motels and most meals in restaurants to minimize weight and bulk on the bikes.

Pace:

  • The steady “effort” pace of this tour is intended for riders who regularly ride paved roads at a steady pace slowed down by touring gear, uphills, headwinds, photo stops, etc.
  • Routes pass through sections with wild areas, opportunities to get lost, and sometimes no cell phone service.  The plan is to keep everyone within line of sight and frequent regroups for safety.

Equipment:

  • Your bike must be in good condition and ready for the route.
  • You must carry your personal gear on your bike for 2 nights in Harrison.
  • Before the tour starts you should test ride your bike fully loaded for the tour to make sure everything fits and will stay where it belongs on the bike.

The Plan:  The tour schedule, estimated costs, and suggested lodging for each night are in the attached spreadsheet.  Bad weather could cause a reschedule.  Check with the Ride Leader if in doubt.

  • Monday, June 12: Drive to Wallace, Idaho about 375 car miles from the Mill Creek area.  Note: this the day before the bike tour officially starts.
  • Tuesday, June 13:  Ride bikes from the Wallace Inn to the Lake View Lodge in Harrison,  49 miles, +614 feet up, -1,139 feet down.  Yep, more down than up this day.
  • Wednesday, June 14:  Ride bikes from Harrison to Plummer, Idaho.  We will meet up with the BIKES Club Tour de PNW Phase 3 group for lunch in Plummer (Gateway Cafe), then ride back to the Lake View Lodge in Harrison.  31.9 miles, + 1,197 feet of up and -1,201 feet of down.
  • Thursday, June 15:  Ride bikes from Harrison to Wallace Inn.  49.2 miles & 1,140 feet of up.  Lunch stop in Enaville at the Snake Pit Cafe, a unique Idaho eatery at mile 32.
  • Friday, June 16:  Ride bikes from Wallace to Mullen round trip.  15.4 miles, 773 feet of up and down.  There should be time left over this day for touristy stuff in Wallace.
  • Saturday, June 17:  Drive home, about 375 car miles to the Mill Creek area.
