Very concerning since all that reside in the RTA district have been taxed on their vehicle value upon registration funding millions of dollars to get this built. Additionally - in the link Rick provided it shows another disturbing issue with unincorporated roads. Ironically - I just paid my taxes today. Yea - lets just "adopt" another funding package to raise property taxes again!
Endangered: roads in unincorporated areas
In recent years, the county has cut $100 million in near and long-term road projects, left 74 full-time staff positions unfilled and added no seasonal staffing for 2026, and cut another $10 million in operations. Without additional support, another 14 roadway projects are at risk ($67 million would be returned to grant funders), and another 34 full time staff will be eliminated.
It doesn't have to be this way. Snohomish County Council can stave off the worst cuts by implementing a $20 license plate fee for vehicles registered in unincorporated areas that would raise $6 million annually. In addition, voters could adopt a broader funding package later this year or next.
